What 444 verified additive manufacturing service providers across 53 countries actually offer. Drawn from the AMSupplyCheck supplier index, with the methodology and its limits stated in full.

01. Polymer capacity outweighs metal by more than two to one
Industry coverage leans heavily toward metal additive manufacturing, and for understandable reasons: the machines are expensive, the applications are in aerospace and medical, and the parts are photogenic. The service provider landscape looks different.
Of the 386 providers with process data recorded, 88.9 percent offer at least one polymer process, against 39.4 percent offering at least one metal process. Just 31 providers, 8.0 percent, are metal only. The far more common shape of the market is a polymer shop that may or may not have added metal.

Classification uses the process category recorded for each named process, so DMLS, EBM, SLM, WAAM, binder jetting and directed energy deposition count as metal, while FDM, SLA, SLS, MJF, DLP and material jetting count as polymer.
02. Five processes cover most of the market
FDM and SLA together reach the large majority of providers. The long tail is real but thin: 27 further processes appear at four providers or fewer each.

A further 27 processes appear at four providers or fewer each, among them Carbon DLS, directed energy deposition, PolyJet, large format extrusion and concrete printing. Those counts are too small to carry a share of the market.
03. Where the providers are
The United States and Germany together account for just over a third of all geographically placed providers. That concentration is partly real and partly an artefact of how the index was built, which section 06 addresses directly.

A further 130 providers, 29.9 percent of the placed total, sit across 38 more countries with fewer than eight each. They are left out of the chart rather than drawn as one bar, since a grouping is not comparable with a single country.
04. Materials follow the polymer picture
The most widely offered materials are the commodity filaments and standard resins, which is what a polymer-weighted provider base implies. Metal alloys appear, but lower down.

Titanium is excluded from this ranking. It exists in the catalogue as a family heading rather than a specific alloy, so its 104 providers are not comparable with a named grade such as AlSi10Mg and would overstate its position.
05. Quality accreditation, stated as a floor
Only 131 of the 444 verified providers list any accreditation at all. That is not evidence that the remaining 313 lack accreditation, only that the index does not record one. The numbers below are therefore minimums, and no share of the market can be derived from them.

06. Method, and what it cannot support
The index is compiled from public company information, aggregated from independent discovery and from third party manufacturing marketplaces and directories. Records are checked automatically against the provider's own website. Verified in this report means we confirmed the company exists and operates the business described. It is not a quality assessment, and nothing here should be read as an endorsement or a ranking of capability.
Every figure above is a count from a structured field. Where a field was sparse, unstructured, or held a system default rather than a real value, we left it out rather than estimate around it.
Known limits of this dataset
- Geographic bias. The United States and Germany account for 34.4 percent of placed providers, which overstates their share of global manufacturing. Discovery has been English language weighted, so providers in non English speaking markets are likely underrepresented. Read the figures as describing this index, not the world market.
- Process data covers 87 percent of providers. Shares in sections 01 and 02 use 386 as the base, not 444. A provider without recorded process data is unknown, not absent.
- Material data covers 75 percent. Section 04 uses 334 as the base.
- A small number of duplicates remain. Four company websites appear under two records each, under two percent of the index.
- Country names required cleaning. The raw field contained the same country written in several languages and scripts, plus four entries listing multiple countries in one string. Counting raw values would have given 73 countries. The corrected figure is 53.
What we deliberately did not publish
- Process and material pairings. The index records which processes a provider offers and which materials it offers, but not which material goes with which process. Joining the two produces combinations that cannot physically exist, such as SLA paired with ABS filament. Any ranking of popular process and material combinations derived this way would be wrong, so none is given.
- Lead times. Recorded for 67 percent of providers, but as free text with more than 150 distinct phrasings, several of which mix different services in one entry. No distribution can be honestly derived without a normalisation pass we have not done.
- Ratings. The field is populated for every record, but 99 percent of values are a system default of zero. Only three providers carry a real rating, so the field is unusable.
- Continental groupings. The region field is recorded for a third of providers and uses several spellings for the same region.
- Company age, headcount, capacity, minimum order and price level. These are not held as structured data and cannot be reported at all.
